I've been writing, just not blogging lately. And I've still been out and around this fabulous city of NY. Here's what I've seen and who I've met since Joan Rivers (last post):
Saw the Broadway show "Nice Work if You Can Get It" with Matthew Broderick and Kelli O'Hara, Michael McGrath, and Estelle Parsons. I liked it a lot. It's a musical and they always make me happy. I have a picture posted with Matthew Broderick in a previous post; the Fred and Adele Astaire Awards.
Next, I saw "Snow White and the Huntsman." Hubba hubba huntsman. Chris Hemsworth aka "Thor," made the movie great for me. I then watched "Thor" on Netflix and liked it a lot. And since I was in the Chris Hemsworth mode I watched another older one on Netflix. It was called "Cash" and had Sean Bean in it. It was pretty entertaining.
I then saw a screening of a film that hasn't been released yet. I highly recommend it when it comes out. It is "Quartet" and has Maggie Smith in it. Dustin Hoffman directed it. It is about musicians who retire to this beautiful place in the countryside. It is a beautiful movie with superior acting.
Here's a detour from that....I saw "Rock of Ages," in the same week, the day it opened. Loved it too. I thought Tom Cruise was awesome. I'll buy that DVD the day it comes out. Julianne Hough is precious and Catherine Zeta Jones is always excellent.
I then caught Jennifer Tilly on her last day of "Don't Dress for Dinner" on Broadway. She was delightful and she checked the viewer on my camera with me to make sure our picture came out okay. What's fun for me about this is that I met Joey Pantoliano not too long ago and will meet Gina Gershon at the end of this month. These 3: Jennifer, Joey and Gina are all in the movie "Bound" which I saw when I met Joey. It's a Wachowski film and I love the Wachowski siblings' films. "The Matrix."
I then went to "Shakespeare in the Park" and saw "As You Like It" with Lily Rabe and Oliver Platt. It was magnificent even thought the night was very hot and steamy. Central Park was beautiful, the voices on the actors were incredible and the play itself was awesome.
Next came "Tropfest" the Australian short film contest showing in Bryant Park. Ten thousand people showed up and Hugh Jackman hosted.
This was followed by a showing of "Crimes and Misdemeanors" last week and a Q & A with Janeane Garofolo after. "Crimes" is her favorite Woody Allen movie.
That brings me up to date almost...I'm reading "The World According to Monsanto." Yikes. If you're at all concerned about what you ingest....Highly recommended to read it and educate yourselves on what is going on in this world. Also reading "Sacre Bleu" by Christopher Moore who I love to read just for fun.
